Art is Dangerous! Thea Mania

My own artistic process has been a journey of fits and starts. At times, it feels like a firehose trying to get through a keyhole, other times, its more like a limp, barely dripping faucet hanging in the wind.

He, who, having no touch of the Muses' madness in his soul, comes to the door and thinks that he will get into the temple by the help of art - he, I say, and his poetry are not admitted"
(Plato in Phaedrus, p.70 )

The muses’ madness has been known to possess me. Have you felt the electric revels of insanity? I have felt the hurricanes of archetypal powers completely hijack all of my operating systems.

Yes, this "Divine Madness" is an important quality in art that moves us, but as Jung warns, the artist can get caught up in the "disturbing spectacle of some tremendous process" (para 141, Psychology and Literature) or, that the "creative impulse can drain him of his humanity" (para 158).
